when you sat on the porch and listened to monsoon rain  |  piano and electronics

(2015)

"when you sat on the porch and listened to monsoon rain " was written as a reflection on the death of my father. In southern Arizona where I grew up, my father always enjoyed monsoon season and during powerful storms, he would sit on the porch for their duration, simply listening to the sound of the thunder and rainfall. This piece attempts to tap into that mindset he must have had during those stormy desert nights.

The sounds of the piano are manipulated through a patch that adds various levels of echo and reverb and that exploits the harmonic content through frequency sweeps.
